Reading & Writing

This reading and writing program was created from Mr.Stuart’s 27 years of experience as a teacher. He teaches your child reading and writing skills according to your child’s curriculum. Mr.Stuart has created this course based on current trends in education and what he has learned to be the most effective for student success.

In this course, your child will read stories and literature, as well as more complex texts that provide facts and background knowledge in areas such as science and social studies. Your child will be challenged and asked questions that push them to refer back to what they’ve read. This stresses critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that are required for success in high school and college/university.

In this course, your child will generate, gather, and organize ideas and information to write for an intended purpose, learn editing and revising strategies, and reflect on what they need to improve their writing. Students will learn and improve their sentence and paragraph writing, topic sentences, supporting evidence, writing a conclusion, transition words and sentences, researching topics, and more!

This course was designed using standards from the Common Core Curriculum and the Ontario Language Curriculum.
