Speaking in front of an audience should look and feel comfortable and natural. Public speaking for kids builds confidence while improving tone, range, clarity, projection, stance, stage presence and body language. Whether a beginner or advanced speaker, it’s important for kids to have fun while finding their true voice and conquering stage fright!

Mystery Challenge: Develop Your Public Speaking Skills and Solve the Crime!

Day 1: Introduction to the mystery/crime
• Overview of the case and introduce the victim and suspects
• Teams choose a leader and make a 2-minute speech to introduce themselves
• Discuss making a good first impression and provide tips on effective speech
Day 2: Suspect Analysis
• Overview of the suspects and their potential motives and opportunities
• Teams analyze suspects and alibis
• Each team leader presents their analysis of the suspects and their theory of who did it
• Discuss analyzing suspects and provide tips on effective persuasive speech
Day 3: Gathering Evidence and Clues
• Overview of different types of evidence and clues
• Teams gather evidence and clues based on provided information
• Each team leader presents their findings and analysis of the evidence
• Discuss analyzing evidence and provide tips on effective analytical speech
Day 4: Solving the Mystery
• Teams present their theory of who did it and their creative and convincing way of presenting it
• Each team leader presents their team's theory and explains why they think it is the most plausible
• Discuss the importance of creativity and storytelling in presenting a theory and provide tips on effective storytelling speech
Day 5: Conclusion and Reflection
• Reveal the solution to the mystery
• Each student makes a 2-minute speech to reflect on what they learned and how they can apply it in their daily lives
• Provide feedback and constructive criticism to help improve public speaking skills
The Art of Public Speaking: A Debate Bootcamp

Course Objectives:
1) Introduce debating and its purpose.
2) Teach research and preparation skills.
3) Teach argument construction and delivery and provide practice opportunities.
4) Develop critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork skills.
5) Cultivate respect for diverse opinions and listening/responding abilities.
Day 1: Introduction to Debating
• Icebreaker activity to get students comfortable speaking in front of their peers
• Definition of debating and its purpose
• Explanation of the structure of a debate
• Overview of the roles of the moderator, affirmative team, and negative team
• Practice exercise: students will be divided into affirmative and negative teams and will
participate in a mini debate on a fun and relatable topic
Day 2: Research and Preparation
• Overview of the research process for a debate topic
• Explanation of how to gather and organize information
• Practice exercise: students will be given a debate topic and will work in teams to research and
prepare arguments for both the affirmative and negative sides.
Day 3: Constructing Arguments
• Overview of how to construct a compelling argument using evidence and reasoning
• Explanation of how to organize and structure arguments for maximum impact
• Practice exercise: students will work in teams to construct and practice delivering arguments
for both the affirmative and negative sides.
Day 4: Debate Practice
• Overview of how to effectively present arguments during a debate
• Explanation of how to listen and respond to the other team’s arguments
• Practice exercise: students will participate in a full debate on the topic assigned on Day 2, with teams switching between the affirmative and negative sides.
Day 5: Debate Competition
• Final practice exercise: students will compete in a final debate
• Debrief: a review of what was learned and how it can be applied in the future

• Timing your speech to stay within a time limit

Day 4: Presentation Skills
• How to structure a speech
• Using visual aids effectively
• Assignment: Watch and analyze a speech and write about how visual aids enhance the speech.
Day 5: Projection and Articulation
• Techniques to project your voice and articulate clearly
• Tongue twisters and vocal warm-ups
• Assignment: Prepare and present a 2-minute speech on a given topic and focus on projecting and articulating your words clearly.
Level 2: Crafting and Delivering a Great Speech
Objectives:
1) Give and receive constructive feedback.
2) Learn improvisation techniques for public speaking.
3) Develop storytelling skills to engage an audience.
4) Write effective speeches using tips discussed in class.
5) Persuade an audience using evidence and emotion.
Day 1: How to Give and Receive Feedback

Day 3: Storytelling
• How to tell a great story

Day 4: How to Write a Great Speech
• Tips for writing a great speech
• Practice writing a speech on a given topic
• Assignment: Write and present a 2-minute speech on a given topic, focusing on incorporating the tips discussed in class.
Day 5: Persuade
• How to persuade your audience
• Using evidence and emotion to make your point
• Assignment: Prepare and present a 3-minute persuasive speech, on a given topic, focusing on using evidence and emotion to persuade your audience.
