Curriculum for Be A Star Theater, Acting, Public Speaking & Debate 1 hour/ lesson
Class 1 – The getting to know you period in this class is crucial to the development of each student.
The first day of classes are simple exercises, the student will experience a time of sharing, so all students will bond with each other and with the teacher. This allows me as the teacher to evaluate the student’s skills, evaluate their level of understanding of me as their instructor only wanting what is best for them and guiding them to become the best parts of themselves, gives me an understanding of what the level of expertise the child is operating at, and what I need to do as a teacher to hone their skills. Based on what I learn about the students in the first class each child will get an individual assignment for their skill set that will help me see them proceed to the next level, and continue to evaluate them while helping them grow to give their best in all circumstances.
Class 2 - Depending on whether the child was given a speaking assignment, or a monologue to work with the child will present what they have prepared as per assignment given by instructor in class 1. Each child will learn how to take notes on what they see other students do. They will learn a skill set, as someone who supports their classmates in a supportive way and critiques those they watch as well as encourage them through suggestions. This encourages the student that an audience is as important as the speaker. They will learn what keeps their attention on the speaker learning what they must do to keep an audience’s attention. Students will learn how to be dynamic on stage, take a vital role in a leadership position and how important it is to work as a team player each part of a team is important to succeed in the goals of life.
Class 3 - This third class each student starts to act as a vital part of this class as a team and understands every part of that team is important to its success. Students will learn how to work together as partners and the class will watch the process of team building, as they apply it to group scenes, working on their concentration to the scenes that are being presented and learning from others what works and what needs work. All these skills from class 1,2, and 3 start to give the students confidence in their abilities, confidence in supporting others which they can now see is as important as getting the support. On stage, on a podium, or in a board room if a leader cannot get those in the room to join their journey they cannot gather the confidence of the members to support the vision. Debate, public, speaking and theater all use these vital skills and little by little the students are becoming comfortable with each other to move on in standing on their own and having less fear in being the center of attention in the class and in the presentations that are assigned.
